HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Medal for Bravery, silver, (Magyar Ezüst Vitézségi Érem) 1939-1945 - Circular silver(ed) medal with laterally-pierced loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of Admiral Miklós Horthy de Nagybánya, Regent of Hungary, in uniform facing right, circumscribed ‘‘VITÉZ NAGYBÁNYAI HORTHY MIKLÓS MAGYARORSZÁG KORMÁNYZÓJA’ (Valiant Miklós Horthy de Nagybánya, Regent of Hungary), signed ‘BERAN L’; the reverse with the crowned arms of Hungary imposed on crossed swords and a laurel wreath, inscribed ‘VITÉZSÉGÉRT’ (Bravery) below. The medal was instituted on 14 April 1939 to be awarded to non-commissioned officers and other ranks for bravery on the field of battle.
